Personal Irony

Hey Kids,

I’m my biggest critic.

I’m mean, brutal, and cruel. I’m unfair and unforgiving.

I swear at myself, call me names, and scold myself like a red headed step child.

I know when I fail and I find it unacceptable. I disgust myself.

Yet…

I have enormous self-confidence.

I always pull through.

Always.

Tired

Hey kids,

Monday nights are my free, tired night.

I don’t have to go to the overnight job, but it’s one of two days where I’ve pulled a double shift. At the time of this writing, I’ve been up a little over 25 hours.

My plan is always to be productive, but I find I’m ready to just go to bed.

I did make dinner. Pork chops and potatoes.

But I’m done now . I’ll be back up early tomorrow morning.

My eyes are drooping, so I’ll catch you then.

Unknowns

Hey kids,

Since the sun decided to stick around for a second day in a row, we decided to exploit the outdoors once again. Our destination this time would be Chrystal Hot Springs, about an hour and a half to the north.IMG_20160404_023315

I like the hot water but much is made to do with the “healing properties” of the mineral content of the water.

I don’t know.

I feel good afterwards, yes. But like I said, it’s hot water. Lots of it.

Surrounding the pools, attached to the fences, are ad banners for all sorts of “healing” disciplines. This does not add to my confidence. It all makes it into a voodoo hippie vibe. Not at all anything to do with me.

Like so many unseen things, the proof is in the believer. So like many such things, I’m not going to worry much about it.

If the mineral content of the water does provide a medicinal benefit, so be it. If it does not, the hot water felt good for at least the afternoon.

Day Trip

Hey Kids,

Following a week where I crashed and slept every chance I got, which wasn’t a lot, we finally got out of town. Even if only for a few hours.

On the first sunny day, we paid a quick visit to the Marina on the Great Salt Lake. IMG_20160402_141453774_HDRThe lake has raised a foot over the previous historically low level this winter. We will return with our kayaks later, when the weather warms a little more.

Then out to the west and the Stansbury Mountains. We drove past the asphalt and continued in 4WD until the road ended. The remains of last week’s snow hid in the north side shadows of the trees and bushes, indicating that we had climbed some decent elevation.

Of course we had to return to home and get me to bed for the overnight shift tonight.

IMG_20160403_024922There are so many nooks and crannies that are tucked up into the canyons and slopes of these mountains around us. It might take me another 50 years to see half of them.

Sounds like another worthy goal.

Crazy Alone

Hey kids,

I know that there’s a good reason most people put their motorcycles away on days like today (upper 30’s to lower 40’s- snow sticking to everything but the roads). But I love being the only bie out there.

It’s not why I ride, and I don’t need other’s praise. But it means something to me to be part of the few, part of the crowd that others think is nuts.

I enjoy being willing to brave the cold and the wet.

I like to be alone where others don’t dare to tread.

I love being one of those guys.

I am one of those guys.

Easter Feeding Frenzy

Hey kids,

It super early on Easter morning and I’m at work.

As soon as our overnight shift started at 10, the crews have been dismantling the Easter candy displays and moving them to the discount areas for extreme markdowns.

Customers have also been here following the carts of unsold items and candy and scooping them up as fast as they can be placed on their new shelves.Reeses-Eggs

I don’t blame the people for looking for bargains.I don’t blame the store for selling it. But watching the frenzy over the past few hours and even yesterday, I can’t hide my disgust with the commercialization of yet another religious holiday.

I love the Peanut butter eggs as much as the next guy, but I wish everything didn’t have to be about getting or saving the last available pennies just because one can.

Learning Something

Hey kids,

A blog post yesterday was to happen. I returned from the day job and it was truly my intentions. And then the news.

A post all of a sudden seemed trivial with the pictures of Brussels on the TV screen. What am I supposed to say?

And then there was the Presidential primary caucus. I didn’t have any sharable thoughts on that either, although it fascinates me. I read the posts on Facebook. This was all someone else’s battle.

So we ordered Pizza, put on the movie Tombstone, and called it a night.casey

Then this morning, I watch the daily video from one of my YouTube heroes, Casey Neistat. He mentioned at the start of his vlog that in response to life’s terrible events, one should just do what they do best and that effort tilts the world back right, or at least makes it a little bit better, and then he went on with his vlog.

That would’ve been a much better response than not doing anything at all.

Lesson learned.
