A Lighting Bolt by Any Other Name

Hey Kids,

I’ve had my differences with the Chargers through the years.

They seem to beat us when we need to win and we seem to beat them when we have no right reason to do so. It’s a rivalry. It’s a hate thing.

But it’s also a not so hate thing.bolt

The San Diego Chargers have been a thorn in the side of Raiders for my entire life. When we brawl, it’s like fighting a sibling. You want to win, but always with the hope to fight again.

The San Diego Chargers, however, are no more. They have moved on.

I’m sure on a professional level, the LA Chargers will be the same as they were further south.

Right now, the San Diego fans won’t be able to see it and it’s them for whom I feel sorry.

When you’re a fan of a team, you don’t care about salaries, stadiums, box seats, ticket sales, or the like. You watch your colors against their colors and you watch the scoreboard and hope your total totals more than theirs.

I feel for my San Diego brothers. They took your team, they’re changing you logo, and they just expect you to follow.

I’ve been through it. My team has moved. Twice. And look to move again.

I can tell you though. When the game starts, it won’t matter. You’ll find it within yourself to root for your team again.

Besides who else can you call your team? The Broncos??

Weekend or End of the Week?

Hey Kids,

After a weekend of fun, returning to work is such a downer.

Sitting at my desk, I couldn’t help but think that just 24 hours sooner, I was waking up in Moab.

img_20170107_171009450So why was I back to the day job?

Oh yeah, bills, money, food. Not necessarily in that order.

Some will say that it’s important to keep perspective. The weekend is just that. It’s a time to refresh, have some fun, but real life is about responsibility and hard work. “Adulting” is what some people call it.

I think it needs to go the other way. Work should be the fun thing. Weekends should be just a break to help you stay at your best.

I think I’m doing it all wrong.

Frosted Coals

Hey Kids,

The southern Utah desert in the summer time is hot, hot, hot.

Arches National park carries names such as the Devil’s Garden, The Fiery Furnace, and the Dark Angel. Not to mention the landscape of red rock gives the impression of being among the very coals of the earth’s barbecue.img_20170108_111704075

So to experience this place in the winter, in the cold, in the fresh snow when many people are not there to see it, it is a special treat.

I encourage you to give it a try; you won’t be disappointed.

300 Mile Fling

Hey Kids,

When I woke up this morning, I had no idea what I would be doing.

The temp was somewhere below zero. The snow was still piled from the storms.glencanyon

I figured I’d spend some time inside the apartment, getting some things cleaned up and organized.

Before I rose from the bed, we had decided to make the 300 mile trip to Lake Powell to look at a boat in which I had interest to become an owner.

We made the trip, saw the boat and then took a road neither of us had driven and made our way to Moab.

It might’ve been a crazy decision and the apartment didn’t get cleaned, but what a beautiful part of the country this place is.

I think we made the right decision.

A Lesser Degree

Hey Kids,

According to my phone, it’s 0°F right now.

Zero.150px-celsiuskelvin-svg

That means if it gets any colder, it becomes a lower temperature for which Mathematics made accommodations.

It becomes less than zero. A negative. Something that shouldn’t exist under normal rules of life.

It is therefore illegal.

Say no to illegal temperatures.

Just say no.

Phaser Chicken or Blaster Egg

Hey Kids,

I grew up with lasers. So to speak.

The idea of phasers, disrupters, blasters, warp cores, and hyper-drives have been a lifetime reality for me. Sort of.

The idea of these things are as much a reality as oxygen. I can’t really see them, but I know they must be there. And always have for as long as I can remember.EC76 5806

Yet man’s first walk on the moon happen during my lifetime. I remember the first digital watches, the first calculator, the brick cell phones, VCR’s as big as a suitcase, the internet superhighway, and the first time I heard the term of a “site” and asked if that was what they called these “places” on the World Wide Web. I remember the first time I read that wireless technology was being referred to by some as “Wi-Fi”.

It makes me wonder, did we come up with all these things because we had accepted the fact that they existed before they ever did, or would we have just come up with them anyway?

I like to think that anything is possible if it can be imagined.

That is of course, if it’s worthy of the effort to “make it so”.

Sick Day

Hey Kids,

I took a sick day today.sick-day

My little cold that I’ve been fighting off decided to do a counter offensive and
dropped down into my chest. The thought of going out and breathing air outside of my own home struck me
as repulsive, so I called in.

Sick days used to be laying on the couch trying not to die while you watched the crap that makes up daytime TV, with all the trade school commercials and class-action lawsuit ads.

Now, it’s trying not to die while doing work at home on the laptop, Facebook, and YouTube.

I guess that’s progress.
