Wear It Out

Hey Kids,

Every day is a reset.

Old pictures revel bad haircuts, outdated fashions, lost friends, hopeless relationships, and unrealized dreams.

But we thought we were on top of it then; so hip.

I can think of things I did or said yesterday that I could have tried harder or phrased better.

I think I have it all figured out in the morning and yet ready to hang it up by nightfall.resetbutton

It’s that figured out part in the morning that’s important.

Each morning is a new chance to do it right.

The rooster is crowing.

Birthday Week- Tuesday

Hey Kids,

Birthday Week continues into Tuesday and more things worth getting older.

Tuesday- My Kids.

Me and my babies at "our lake"

Me and my babies at “our lake”

I don’t get to see them anymore, at least for now. They’re a big reason why I write this blog (hence “Hey Kids”). I want them know one day who I am, and not who they thought I am or been led to believe I am. I want a history of my thoughts, my daily writings, and my dreams and fears.

I regret not a day in having them. I begrudge not a thing that I couldn’t have because we had to buy diapers, formula, shoes, clothes, and the like.

I don’t pine for a single event I missed because we bought a minivan instead. I loved every minute spent with them and I hurt for every moment I’m now denied.

I’m grateful they, you, are doing well from what I’m told. I’m proud of who you are becoming. And I look forward to waiting this all out and seeing you and my grandkids later on.

I’m happy to know that not a mean thought is spent on you. My arms are open, my heart is longing, and not a minute of my time will be spent seeking recompense. I’m sorry for how you were hurt, but I’m willing to do what I can to ease your pain and gain your forgiveness.

I’m happy to be alive and seemingly in good enough health to keep going for a while. I’m here until God takes me or we find our way back into each other’s lives. Whatever comes first.

My wish is for the later.

Day 78

When You’re Not Working

Hey Kids,

I’m not one of those guys who have to watch the off-season like it matters. I can barely keep up with watching the actual games, let alone trying to find out who showed up when to training camp, who got traded, and who got cut. I have too many things going on.

I do get caught up in some of the news and occasionally I like to check in and see if anything exciting that might affect the season happened. This past week, I got hooked on NFL organized practices press conferences.hard-work

In one interview, a second year player spoke of the difference of the rookie year when compared to the second year. The press lobbed the question to him and he answered that it really didn’t matter what year it was, he just had to work hard and get better at the things he could get better at, which was everything.

He’s a sincere guy. Humble family upbringing, soft spoken, and complimentary to everyone around him. But in regards to working hard he drew on a statement his father had told him that he uses as his motivation.

He said his daddy told him “When you’re not working, someone else is.”

This world will pass you by if you let it. Your spot isn’t assured. Get out and out-work the rest of them and good things will happen. If nothing else happens, you’ won’t have to worry whether or not you tried hard enough. And that puts you in some elite company and leaves you with no regrets.
