Hey Kids,
There does come a time when you start to wonder if you’re being mocked.
But all in good fun.
I hope.

Hey kids,
Tomorrow is the big day- the Barbeque party.
If as.many people show as had said they would, I’m floored.
I know the secret is to offer food, and I did, but still.
The fact that anyone would spend an afternoon with me because I’m getting old, err older touches me.
I need to go to bed now this afternoon because I work an overnight shift tonight and another tomorrow, but I lay my head down grateful for the knowledge that I have friends.
Even hungry friends.

Hey kids,
I failed to note yesterday that my dad turned 75.
75.
Nothing is given and living a long life isnonenof those things not guaranteed.
So congrats to the old man, and going beyond average!

Hey kids,
24 hours does seem the perfect length for a day.
But it’s a little long to be up for all of it. My day started about 25 hours ago and I’m thinking it’s time to call it here.

Hey kids,
The world is changing. Always has and always will. What was yesterday is not today and won’t be tomorrow.
I find it’s better to anticipate the brightness of the future than to pine for the good times of the past for the past will never return.
But the future is not here yet.
The present is now. Live the present, it’s better than both the future and the past.

Hey kids,
My big party is set for Sunday, so today which is the actual date anniversary of my date of birth I did a few more practical things.
First- Hit the gym. A work out first thing in the morning got the day off on the active side.
Second- Made some delicious oatmeal for breakfast in our Kuerig machine. That’s right, the coffee maker. No I dont drink coffee but these coffee makers aren;t just for coffee anymore.
Third- Took my baby to work. I’m sorry she couldn’t stay home with me but I’m not the one who makes up the rules.
Fourth- Picked up the jack and tools from storage.
Fifth- pulled the wheel from the Suzuki.
Sixth- Had the local MC shop change the tire on the rim.
Seventh- re-installed the front wheel and tire.
Eighth- Fixed the rear blinker wire on same Suzuki.

The Suzuki is back in business.
Ninth- Drove to DMV and registered the bike (i.e. paid them their money).
Tenth- Renewed my Driver’s license. (i.e. paid them more money)
Eleventh- hit the bank and paid my bike (Yamaha) payment.
Twelfth- drop a card off to my son who also has a birthday today.
Thirteenth- had dinner with my dear wife and my brother.
Fourteenth- Installed the tags on the Suzuki and took it for a sunset test drive. (It was once dead, but now it is alive… fatted calf and all that.
Fifteenth- Wrote a blog to chronicle it all. The first of at least one year straight- a new goal.
Sixteenth- (set in the future) went to bed.
The first day of my 51st year was a busy one.
Hey kids,
Tomorrow, I’m fifty.
At forty, I mentioned that I was then half dead. At fifty, I don’t feel like that so much; instead, I feel like I’m at the beginning of the best decade ever.
I feel healthier, even if I might not be. I feel happier, even though I carry a huge sadness. I feel like I have ever bit as much energy since I was in my 20’s or 30’s. Yes, 50 is going to be good to me I think.
If for no other reason than I am going to make my 50’s good to me.
Punch the ticket, the ride is about to start.

Hey Kids,
I watch YouTube videos on a regular basis because they inspire me. I’m not much of a social butterfly, so these people are my friend replacements. On occasion, they are life altering, thought provoking, and/or sources for sage life advice.
Today I came across this little nugget:![]()
All the dragons in our lives are perhaps princesses expecting us to be handsome and brave; all the terrifying things are perhaps nothing but helpless things waiting for us to help them.
Jean-Luc Godard Histoire(s) du Cinéma. Via the Neistat Brothers.
YouTube. Who would’ve thunk it?

Hey kids,
Last night I reported on the death of my laptop. It may have been slightly exaggerated.
The screen is broke and the touch screen is still wacked out but life clung to the micro circuits.
My back up computer proved to be too slow to become updated, so I fought with the erratic screen to little avail. But then an old joke flashed through my stained brain.
“Doctor, my arm hurts when I move it like this.”
“Then don’t move it like that.”
<<Rim shot>>
Everything appeared to work, except the touch screen.
So I disabled the touch screen.
Tada!
Fully functional traditional laptop. Old school.
And then to top it all off, I check the receipt to see how long I’ve had this machine. The date said January 2015, but more importantly I noticed the line item labeled Extended Warranty on the invoice.
What??!
I forgot, I paid for the second year of warranty which covers accidents. I might be covered after all.
Dead is not always fatal.

Hey kids,
This laptop is fine, says I. I hoped it would last me a year. It did. Plus. I think I’ll use it longer. Why not? It’s running great.
Life says wait, throws laptop out of bag and onto sidewalk.
Glass screen is cracked throwing touch screen into wacky land.
I began looking for new replacement already.
Never express a fondness of working equipment or decide you can get by with it for a little bit longer.
