Be Nice

Hey Kids,

Power.

That thing that inspires some and consumes others.

Even when it’s a big fish in a little pond thing, the quest for power is irresistible.

They must have it. They must be seen by others. They must exert their power over those around them. And they must have praise heaped upon them.

I know one such person.just-be-nice

I find it sad and pathetic.

I also find it annoying.

Why try to make people look bad to bolster your image?

And I wonder if it’s an act of sacrificing others to their own graven image or is it a complete disregard of others, used without acknowledgment of their status of human beings?

I’m not sure which is worse.

People such as this person baffle me.

Don’t be this person. Treat others as you want to be treated. And know, what does it profit you to gain the whole world but lose your soul?

Be nice people. The world needs more of that kind.

Day 310

Be Nice

Hey Kids,15 - 1

There are some wonderful people in the world. And the greatest thing about the Internet is that we can all meet a bunch of them. That wasn’t possible even just a few years ago.

There are also really bad people too. People who see the Internet as a way to hide behind their login and say whatever they want to say to hear themselves say it, argue to argue, minimalize to minimalize. Most, things they wouldn’t do face to face.

I’m sorry for these people, they’re missing a great opportunity and I think they hurt themselves. In a world trying to connect, these people will be left out. Being, excuse me, a d*ck, makes you a d*ck.

Don’t be a d*ck.

Be nice.

Compliment, thank, and friend the world. It’s a lot more fun world that way.

Walk away, ignore, or unfollow things that aren’t your cup of tea. Let people be wrong. Let them be ignorant. It’s OK and grammar isn’t that important.

Life’s too short not to recognize that we can be so much more one people now than ever before.

And while I’m thinking about it, thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my blog and allows me to share my thoughts. I really do appreciate it.

And while “your” at it, have a great day!

P.S.- Replace * with an “i” or “u”; however you see fit.

Day 128

Lasting Impressions

Hey Kids!

I saw in my email today that the University of Utah placed third in the World Cup Quidditch Championship.

They beat out schools like UCLA and Arizona in the Western Regionals to get to the World Cup. I didn’t know that Quidditch actually existed, let alone as a completive sport on the University level.

Quidditch, as anyone would know by now, is the sport played at Hogwarts in the Harry Potter book and movie series. The players fly around on brooms trying to put a misshaped ball called a Quaffle through a series of elevated circles, while dodging other balls called Bludgers, and while two specialized players chase a Golden Snitch.

To make it possible for muggles to play, some elements have been changed.

quidditch

My point is not to explain Quidditch, or to make light of the fact that near-gown-ups are playing a make believe game, ignoring the fact that the game is essentially impossible. My point is that sometime during their time before college, these students were touched enough by something they thought was wonderful and they still want to be part of it.

Harry Potter resonated with millions of people. Tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions. JK Rowling didn’t just write a book, she touched people. She made a difference in their lives. She brought them a joy and a feeling that they don’t want to let go.

What can we do to touch people. Write a world class best selling book series that inspires kids of all ages to read? Sure. How about just be nice to people? Smile. Say thank you. Hold a door open. Support a fund raiser for that little kid at the door. Do something nice for someone else.

You’ll never know how much something will mean to someone else. What impression you might make. But if you did something nice everyday for someone else, you might find that your legacy might be a nicer you.

And that’s better than winning First at the World Cup of Quidditch.

Well, almost.
